According to Reuters, the owners of the WRC Promoter are examining its options, including the potential sale of their business, in order to bring in cash at a time of high valuations for sports media rights.
The World Rally Championship has lost its prestige the recent years as only two factory teams (Hyundai and Toyota) and one semi-manufacturer team (M-Sport Ford) competing at the top level of WRC despite FIA's efforts to attract more manufacturers. Rally1 regulations will exist until the end of 2026 while the new regulations are set to be announced within a year and will be applied from 2027 onwards. The owners, Red Bull and KW 25, are working with the bankers at JPMorgar with the view of selling potentially the WRC Promoter GmbH later this year and hope that their business can fetch a valuation up of 500$ million. However, the anonymous sources suggested that the discussions were ongoing, but the sale might not happen, while a second person said that a new owner could expand the sport globally and into the U.S. market. Finally, it must be mentioned that WRC Promoter is responsible for the commercial aspects of FIA World Rally Championship, including the TV production and media and sponsorship rights.
