Hyundai's private team may be running by Neuville in 2026

The team principal and the CEO of Hyundai Motorsport, Cyril Abiteboul, hints that a pribate team may represent Hyundai in World Rally Championship in 2026 despite their two-year commitment until the end of 2025.

The Alzenau-based team has already developed a LMDh prototype car in order to join WEC and to race at LeMans 24h withing three years while it is expected that Hyundai is set to make its debut in World Endurance Championship the coming weeks. However, Abiteboul confirmed earlier this summer that Hyundai will remain committed in WRC and has the possibility to run in two series at the same time of period while their WRC stay may depend on if another manufacturer joins World Rally Championship from 2027 onwards. In addition to that, the i20's production is set to be stopped on the first half of 2025, but now the rumors say that Thierry Neuville may have his own WRC team from 2026 running private Hyundai cars as the Belgian is set to renew his contract with the team for two more seasons. Hyundai Motorsport rejoined World Rally Championship back in 2014 and has won two manufacturers' championships while they are currently on the top of the standings and Neuville reels in claiming his maiden driver title not only for himself, but also for his team.
