Thierry Neuville says that his focus was not driving on the limit at Acropolis Rally in order to avoid risks while he reveals that his aim is to protect his championship lead in the last three WRC rounds.
The Belgian claimed his second victory with Hyundai in Greece despite the fact that he was opening the roads on Friday and took advantage over his teammates's mistakes on Saturday morning. His weekend did not start well as he was running only with three cylinders on Friday morning, but his mechanics managed to fix his car for the afternoon loop while he faced some brake issues on the final stage of Friday. He was leading Acropolis Rally since Stage 9 and once again he finished ahead of his teammates on Hyundai's 1-2-3 which was previously done in 2022. At the end of the tenth WRC round, Neuville has extended his championship lead to 34 points with three rounds remaining until the season finale.
"It’s unbelievable", Neuville said.
"It has been a crazy weekend. Ever since the recce, I was concerned about the roughness of the rally; I knew that we needed a different approach than some of the other drivers to try to keep the advantage we have in the championship for the remaining rounds.
"That objective and target has been the best, and paid off with victory and a good team result as well.
"We were not driving on the limit all weekend long to avoid any punctures and moments, and we kept all four wheels on the road.
"Now we have a good lead, the story will be to protect those points in the last three rounds".
