Ogier will give a try to fight for his ninth WRC title

Sebastien Ogier confirms that he will compete in the four remaining rounds of the 2024 season as he has the chance to fight for his ninth WRC title despite the fact that does not want to go to Chile.

The Frenchman had agreed with Toyota for a partial programme this year, but he is currently one of the title contenders since he is second on the championship standings at the end of Rally Finland. He has won three rallies and has finished three times at the second place while the initial plan did not include his participation at Rally Chile and Central European Rally. As the things stand, Ogier is 27 points behind the championship leader Thierry Neuville before the start of Acropolis Rally in Greece and is now the leading Toyota driver considering his position on the championship. However, the new WRC point system will not help Ogier, Ott Tanak and Elfyn Evans on their fight for the WRC title bid, but everything can happen with four rounds remaining until the season finale.

"I think now it's clear", Ogier said.

"It's four rounds remaining and the position we are in the championship we had to give it a try, being also now the leading driver for Toyota.

"Of course, there was a bigger wish from the team for me to be there and on my side two out of this four rallies were planned already, and we just had to add Chile and Central Europe.

"Even if I'm not looking so much for the travel to Chile because of the distance to Europe, I cannot complain to be in this situation.

"It's still always tempting to have a chance to fight for a championship, even though right now it's still a long shot.

"It's still with the current point system, not so easy to catch this kind of gap, but the best we can do is try to put pressure as late as we can in the season.

"As long as there is a mathematical chance, anything can happen".
