Martins Sesks says that Rally Chile will be a challenge for him considering that fact that he had never competed there and will drive the non-hybrid Puma, but does not afraid of that challenge after his two outings at the top level earlier this year.
The Latvian drive made his WRC debut with the non-hybrid Puma in Poland three months ago and impressed everyone with his performance as he set the second-fastest time in Stage 2 and completed Friday morning at the second place behind the rally leader Andreas Mikkelsen, but the most important is that he finished fifth overall which is his best personnel result so far in his WRC career. After Rally Poland, Rally Latvia was next on his programme, but this time he got behind the wheel of the Puma Rally1. Once again, he was impressive as he was fighting for the top places with three WRC Champions (Sebastien Ogier, Kalle Rovanpera and Ott Tanak) during all the weekend, but eventually he dropped from third to seventh as his Puma suffered from transmission issues just 600 meters into Powerstage. M-Sport Ford gave to him another chance and he will drive the non-hybrid Puma in Chile next week while his name has been linked to Hyundai and to Malcolm Wilson's team for 2025. Last but not least, it must be mentioned that Sesks is currently competing in European Rally Championship with the Toyota GR Yaris Rally2, but he has yet to win an ERC event this year.
"Of course it will be a big challenge to go to South America and drive a Rally1 car in Chile for the first time", Sesks said.
"It will be a great adventure I think, something new again and we’re now trying to prepare for the rally.
"We’re watching the onboards and seeing similar things to some European rallies.
"It will be a bit harder for us driving the non-hybrid car, but again it's an opportunity to show some pace without the hybrid, and if we succeed there it's even better.
"Our experience from Poland and Latvia in understanding the car will help a lot.
"It will be a challenge but we’re looking forward to it!"
