Toyota needs to have three full-time drivers in 2025

The team principal of Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT, Jari-Matti Latvala, says that the need of his team is to have three full-season drivers next season while he does not rule out the possibility of bringing a fourth car for a part-time driver.

The Japanese driver announced Elfyn Evans and Takamoto Katsuta as its regular drivers for this season while Sebastien Ogier and Kalle Rovanpera wanted a partial programme. In addition to that, Sami Pajari made his WRC debut with the GR Yaris Rally1 on his home event a month ago and will participate on the following two events with Toyota at the top level while Katsuta will be absent from Rally Chile. Toyota has lost even more ground from the first Hyundai on the manufacturers championship as their gap is now at 35 points with three rpunds remaining until the season finale in Japan. Last but not least, it must be mentioned that Hyundai shared firstly its thoughts of changing its third-car policy ahead of the new season as they saw that some part-time drivers are not able to deliver good results.

"What I have learned this year is that for 2025 we need to have three drivers who will do the full championship", Latvala said.

"This is clear now that having part-time drivers and if you have only two drivers doing the full championship, that is not enough to win the title.

"We can have a fourth driver who can do part of the championship, but three drivers need to be doing a full season".
