The WRC event director, Simon Larkin, admits that the format in some rallies will be different next year, but World Rally Championship will not include a sprint nor an endurance event.
World Rally Championship will visit 14 countries for the first time in its history with Rallye Monte Carlo and Rally Saudi Arabia being the opening and the concluding round of next season's championship respectively. This year's Rally Italia Sardegna had a new format as the Shakedown session started on Friday while the rally action started later that day. Some events of 2025 may follow the same format as Rally Italia Sardegna which was hosted four months ago whereas Safari Rally is expected to run a longer format in 2025. So far, it is unknown in which direction the WRC events will move for 2025, but the next World Motor Council will be held on 17th October, so maybe FIA will announce more infor about the rally formats of the 2025 WRC calendar.
"There will be a couple of events next year that will run slightly different formats", Larkin said.
"I know one event that's probably going to run a bit longer and I know an event that's going to run, a tighter format.
"We have always said we don't want there to be different brands of events.
"We don't want there to be something called a WRC sprint.
"We don't want there to be something called a WRC Endurance.
"We're constantly told by a lot of our multi-millionaire drivers things are too complicated.
"We don't need to make it more complicated.
"I already know there's going to be one event that's going to run quite a bit longer next year, which is great, and a couple of others that will run slightly modified, for me.
"It’s good".
