Sami Pajari targets to gain experience with the hybrid Yaris at Central European Rally despite the fact that he knows the stages after his participation in WRC2 class a year ago.
The Finn driver will do his third outing at the top level with the Toyota GR Yaris Rally1, but it will be his first appearance with this car on tarmac as he had had two participations on gravel rallies earlier this year. His best result is his fourth place on his home event last August so far this season while he replaced Takamoto Katsuta at Rally Chile where he finished in sixth place. Furthermore, it must be mentioned that he was fighting for the top positions in Chile and stayed out of trouble during this event compared to Rally Finland where he did not have a positive start on Friday. Last but not least, it must be mentioned that Pajari may join Toyota next year as the Japanese team is considering of having a satellite team for Katsuta and Pajari in 2025.
"This will be my first time with the Rally1 car on asphalt and I’m sure it will be a big challenge", Pajari said.
"I did the rally in WRC2 last year and it was really tricky in places, with some more enjoyable parts as well.
"The stages are a bit different in each of the three countries, and at this time of year the weather can be quite unpredictable.
"But at the moment for myself it’s all about facing these challenges and learning from them.
"I think we did quite a solid job in Finland and Chile and I’m sure it will be a similar story on this rally too: when we’re feeling good we can do some nice times, and if there’s more risk or tricky conditions, step back a little bit to gain the experience and not rush too much".
