The FIA WRC category manager, Marina Dunach, says that World Rally Championship will have a new point system next year which will be voted on the upcoming World Motor Council.
FIA introduced a new point system from the beginning of 2024 in which the top ten crews can be rewarded for their Saturday performance on condition that they will finish the rally. The Powerstage points remained unchanged, but SuperSunday standings were also added to the new WRC point system in order to make the Sundays more spectacular and to give to the crews the motivation to push on the final day of an event. The top seven crews can collect points from SuperSunday standings while 30 points are still the maximum points that a crew can score during a rally week. However, many drivers, co-drivers, teams and fans do not like the new point system and desire a change, thus FIA have some proposals on the table and will decided which one the most suitable. The next World Motor Council will be held on December 11th and we learn more about the new WRC point system for 2025.
"We have different options, we have been talking about this all season", Dunach said.
"Every two weeks we have a sporting working groups and different options are on the table coming from the driver's representative Scott Martin and from the manufacturers and from the WRC Promoter.
"Finally, we think we have an option to be presented to the next commission that more or less all agree with".
"It will go to a vote at the World Motor Sport Council and maybe we will have a new points system for next year.
"After looking at the different options presented we have been testing with Excel files what would happen using the different options and thinking what is the best for the championship.
"We all feel more or less that this is more fair, maybe".
