The team principal of Hyundai Motorsport, Cyril Abiteboul, believes that FIA should reconsider the power and the air restrictors of the next year's cars and recommends to make another new change ahead of the new season.
FIA announced eleven days ago that the hybrid units will be removed from the current Rally1 cars which means that the weight has been decreased from 1260 to 1180 kilograms while the power will less without the hybrid boost. Moreover, the air restrictor size reduced from 36mm to 35mm to maintain an equivalent power-to-weight ratio between the 2024 and 2025 vehicles. So far, we do not know if a WRC team has already tested the new cars for 2025, but it is speculated that the tests will be scheduled on December as a preparation for Rallye Monte Carlo.
"We are going to push the FIA to re-examine their plans on power", Abiteboul said.
"We would like to keep the same restrictor and we think it is a big loss, so I think it is something that we need to reconsider with the FIA.
"I understand the safety concern.
"But I think that the car can cope with it, so we need to be careful not to lose what is something happening in the sport right now, which is the outright power of these cars.
"So I would invite the FIA to reconsider those things, but positively again we want to work in collaboration with the FIA on that".
