Adrien Fourmaux says that M-Sport could not afford his salary and could not give to him what he wanted which was the development of Puma by Ford Performance.
The Frenchman returned back to the wheel of the Puma in 2024 and was the leading driver of M-Sport Ford for the whole season while he managed to finish at the lowest place of the podium five times, to claim his maiden Powerstage win and to lead a rally for the first time in his career. His speed and his consistency impressed Toyota and Hyundai, but Cyril Abiteboul's offer was more interesting as he could provide to Fourmaux a full-season programme with the i20N. Despite the rumors since last summer, eventually Fourmaux will join forces with Thierry Neuville and Ott Tanak in 2025 in order to put Hyundai back to the top. Last but not least, it must be mentioned that Tanak and Sebastien Ogier left M-Sport Ford for the same reason as Ford Performance was not involved so much on the car development.
"We were waiting for some call from Ford and it never came", Fourmaux said.
"Then at some point, I had a call with Malcolm and Malcolm said: ‘Sorry Adrien, but I can’t afford you.
"So yeah, thank you, and we’ll see you next year with Hyundai overalls’.
"Overall, it was more like that than just saying to Malcom: ‘Ciao-ciao.’”
"I wanted to get some development from Ford, which is not coming.
"So then Malcom said: ‘I can’t give you what you want, so I think we’re going to have to split for now.’"
