Hyundai to bring the upgraded i20N Rally1 after Monte Carlo

The team principal of Hyundai Motorsport, Cyril Abiteboul, says that his team will delay to field the upgraded i20N Rally1 at Rallye Monte Carlo next January considering how difficult is this event.

Hyundai Motorsport is developing the current i20N since last summer and is about to bring major updates to the 2025 car as they used many homologation jokers during this season in order to solve their reliability issues and to make a more competitive car. However, the team will not bring the upgraded i20N in Monte Carlo as this rally is a difficult and a challenging one, thus they may introduce their developed car at Rally Sweden in two months. Last but not least, it must be mentioned that Hyundai has achieved to win five times including the Rallye Monte Carlo.

"There has been a lot of work going in and we still believe there is good potential in the car and obviously we are very limited in terms of the mileage that we can cover or that has been covered with the car", Abiteboul said.

"The key question is going to be what is the tipping point for this car to become a more controlled platform than the current car?

"It is not really a new car, it is what we call the ‘evo’ car.

"We are in the process of finding when the tipping point will occur and from that basis we will make a decision as to when is the best introduction strategy for the car.

"It is not going to be in Monte Carlo.

"We will use the current car in Monte Carlo.

"That event is a very special challenge and it is not won on pure outright pace, so we think it is better to keep on using the car that we understand and know how to set up and by the way it also won the event this year".
