Sordo would like to drive the fourth Hyundai i20N in 2025

Dani Sordo wants to be the fourth driver for Hyundai next season considering the Toyota's line-up which consists of four full-time drivers.

The Spaniard has been the third driver of Hyundai since 2018 and shared the car with many drivers including Craig Breen and Sebastien Loeb. In 2024, he made only three outings with the i20N Rally1 as Andreas Mikkelsen and Esapekka Lappi had agreed to have an extended programme compared to Sordo. However, Hyundai has already finalised its driver line-up with Thierry Neuville, Ott Tanak and Adrien Fourmaux for 2025 whereas Toyota will bring four cars for Takamoto Katsuta, Kalle Rovanpera, Elfyn Evans and Sami Pajari while Sebastien Ogier will have a partial campaign again with the Yaris. Although the speculations of a fourth i20N existed since the end of 2023, it is more likely that a fourth entry could not happen as Genesis will enter LeMans 24h in 2025 while Sordo may be the team pricipal of Hyundai Motorsport in World Rally Championship as Cyril Abiteboul will switch to WEC.

"I think it would be good for the team to put in a fourth car, because when you see the line-up of other teams, they are all like this, four drivers", Sordo said.

"But I’m not the boss of the team, only an employee, so I can’t decide.

"Of course, I would like to drive a few rallies and I think I can do a good job for the team.

"But even if I don’t drive this fourth car, I think it will be important to have it because with the strategy now, at the moment they have the starting position, it’s nice to have at least one car at the back.

"If you are playing with the three cars all the time, you will have the three cars all the time at the front of the road order".
