Katsuta explains his crash in Monte Carlo

Takamoto Katsuta is talking about the crash he had in Stage 16 of Rallye Monte Carlo which led him to retire from the sixth place.

The Japanese star was in sixth position overall for the most of Rallye Monte Carlo as he lost many seconds on Thursday due to gearbox issues. In Stage 14, he also lost time as he was late on the handbrake in a hairpin, but the most costly mistake came for him on the opening stage of Sunday when he understeered on a left hander 1.8Km into SS16 which led his Yaris to be stuck in a ditch. He and Aaron Johnston were unable to continue and had to retire with only two stages remaining for the finale.

"This morning in the first stage we knew that the conditions could be quite tricky, but we came to one right-hand corner that was frosty where we didn’t have that information in our pacenotes", Katsuta said.

"We were quite slow going into the corner, but the car went wide and got stuck in a small ditch which we couldn’t get out of.

"Until then it had been quite a good rally, especially Saturday when the pace was good.

"It’s a pity but I just need to refocus on the next rally in Sweden and try to do a good job for the team there".
