Rovanpera focuses on Safari Rally

Kalle Rovanpera eyes on a good performance at Safari Rally after the difficult Rally Sweden, but at the same time he does know how the new tyres will perform in Kenya.

The Finn driver was fighting for the fifth position at Rally Sweden and dropped many seconds in one stage when he had to reverse in a junction, but generally he was out of pace. He found the speed to push on Saturday morning by setting fastest times, but other than that he eventually finished fifth overall while he was sixth for the most part of Rally Sweden. Despite his lack of performance on the first two WRC rounds of the championship, he is third overall on the standings and 30 points behind the first Elfyn Evans while he will start second on the road at Safari Rally.

"Now we need to focus on the next rally on gravel with a completely different tyre and work to be stronger there", Rovanpera said.

"Sweden was a difficult weekend — we were trying to push hard but just didn’t have the pace or performance we wanted.

"We have one day of testing before Safari.

"I don’t know about the specification for the tyre, which one it will be.

"It’s another new thing [to be running on the gravel-spec Hankook] and we have to see how it goes.

"There’s not really much we can do to prepare before the test, I just hope it’s going to be working more in a way which works for me".
